Onkyo

Onkyo is a Japanese manufacturer of Hi-Fi audio and video equipment. The company was founded by engineer Takeshi Godai under the name Osaka Denki Onkyo K.K. The company's first product was the CP1000 phono cartridge.

In the 1950s, the company developed a special unpressed paper cone, the ED-100 speaker, and the OP-670 stereo player. In 1955, the original OS-88 radio amplifier was created. By the end of the decade, Onkyo had launched the first round speaker system and the HP-10 record player/amplifier, which could record sound.

The company achieved a real breakthrough in 1966 with the release of the ST-55 component stereo system, which was recognized as a best buy in Japan. In 1968, the MC2200 multi-channel stereo system was released. By the late 1960s, Onkyo released the Integra 01. Demand for this product grew, and a branch was opened in New York.

The Integra A725 amplifier achieved even greater success, winning the first Stereo Component Grand Prix. Furthermore, it was awarded a letter of commendation from the Japanese Ministry of International Trade and Industry for its design achievements.

In 1971, the company changed its name and officially became Onkyo.

Ten years later, the first high-speed dual-cassette deck, the TA-W800, was released. At the same time, the company entered the CD player market for the first time. In the mid-1980s, the C-700 player appeared, featuring an optical data line.

With the turn of the century, the company continued to develop new modular systems for home theater.

In March 2015, Onkyo acquired Pioneer Corporation.
